Weekend Roadtrip: Colorado
While Case and Christina focus their attentions on the Mercedes build, Kristen and I took the Upper Crust FJ Cruiser out to Colorado for a three-day-weekend. Our official reason was to photograph a wedding, which we do occasionally for friends and family. But a huge bonus was the chance to have a free day, out exploring the area around Winter Park in the Arapaho National Forest.
We ended up above Fraser, CO at a little spot called Meadow Creek Reservoir. It was packed with families escaping the zoo of Winter Park, most of them fishing and camping in various spots around the lake. The FJ’s clearance allowed us to park in a slightly more secluded spot, right on the lake, but still close enough to the toilets. Of course, being camped that close to the action meant that we became part of the exhibit; most people wandering by our camp stopped to remark on the utility/novelty of our Roof Top Tent.
If you spend as much time as we do immersed in the “Overland” culture, you start to think of the RTT as ubiquitous, but most people never get the chance to see them in real life, or have never heard of them! We often end up in conversations about the FJ, the Tepui Tent, or the various other pieces we have attached to the truck at any given time. It’s a great way to meet people and strike up conversation.
